Landscape

The setting is an open dune landscape with seemingly scattered bunkers occupied by grazing sheep and cattle. A new structure is planned within this specific condition, containing a holiday home and stables for sheep.

The architecture of the new volume is conceived as a solid ensemble which subtly settles in the sloping landscape, referring to the local polder farms. A humble and rudimentary structure as protection against the elements of nature.

The building is closed off facing the street and opens up gradually towards the landscape. A slender steel pergola complements the concrete structure and guides visitors towards the enclosed garden framing the polder landscape. Dorms are shaping the plan consisting out of closed volumes alternating the shared living spaces. A stable is part of this interior and animals are visible from the kitchen. A concrete staircase is integrated in the facade and leads to the viewpoint on the roof of the building.
